“Best Winning Percentage”

What head football Coach for the University of Notre Dame set the all-time winning percentage of 88.1%?

As head coach of the University of Notre Dame, he set the greatest all-time winning percentage of 88.1%, since eclipsed but still the best percentage in Division 1-A. During 13 years as head coach, he oversaw 105 victories, 12 losses, 5 ties, and 6 national championships, including 5 undefeated seasons without a tie. He introduce the “shift”, with the backfield lining up in a T Formation and then quickly shifting into a box formation to the left or right just as the ball was snapped.

He was raised as a Protestant, but convert to Catholicism later in life.

Clues:
Park in the parking lot which serves the Notre Dame Bookstore. Walk east from the Parking lot of the Notre Dame Bookstore until you pass the Eck Visitors Center then follow the sidewalk north just before reaching the road. You will pass a building with a blue canopy on your left. Continue North toward the steeple. As you walk north the steeple and the dome will come into full view, keep an eye to the left and you will see a sidewalk that leads to a building with 20 granite steps leading up to two wooden doors. Walk toward that building. As you walk along toward the building you will see a light post marked M18. Hidden in a tree between the sidewalk you are on and a sculpture honoring the family is the answer to your quest.

The box is located where a branch once graced the campus. From this tree you will have a great view of the steeple of Sacred Heart.

Please return the box to the original location completely hidden from view.

We hope you enjoy your walk and enjoy the views!
