UPDATE -The log book is wet and ruined... will fix when I am able to get out there.

This letterbox is located on the Ruby & Elizabeth Cohen Property on McDonald Road. This is town property that was purchased from the Cohen family, through an open space grant from the State of CT. This property is used for Parks and Rec activities, school field trips, family outings, scouting projects, fishing, picnicking and endless other kinds of outdoor fun. On this 100+ acre property, I have been told that there are samples of every kind of tree that exists in Connecticut... although we have not found all of them ourselves!

This is a nice easy walk. A 9 and a 4 y/o planted it with me... with minimal groaning...

When you park in the gravel parking lot near the gazebo, follow the trees that line the pond to the back of the field. Take the path at the back of the field into the woods. An easy wide path will lead you to a fork in the path... Enjoy the kiosks built by an eagle scout, that inform visitors about interesting bits of nature. At the fork you can choose to go left or right... it is a loop. To the left, you will walk very close to a house recently built, and a barking dog... stay on the path to stay on public property... If you choose to go right, the path will loop around and eventually go down a little hill. At the bottom of the hill, from either direction, you will find a beautiful old barn foundation. Take a minute to imagine the work and livelihood that was once in action around here.

Facing straight into the foundation from the path, look to your right. Take the easiest path up the hill as if you were going to walk up and around the whole foundation. Before you get to the top, you will see a tall oak tree off to your right. At the base of this tall tree, a small stone pile hides your treasure.

Please replace the rock cover carefully... as this will be seen easily if it is not left hidden! If you arrive soon, the peepers in the swamp will serenade you... they were peeping like crazy when we planted this!

Check out The Dancer and it's bonus Paperdolls for an addition to this lovely walk!
