This tiny little box is hidden away in a quiet spot on the UMass Amherst campus. I love to come here to read or just be in nature. It's a great place for kids to run around without you having to worry too much about them, too!
Park either in the Health Services parking lot or in the metered parking just up and around the hill in front of some of the dorms.
Head toward Durfee Conservatory - the greenhouse farthest back from the dining hall. If the greenhouse is open, walk through and enjoy the plants! If not, slip through a space in the partition to the greenhouse's left and cross the wooded area. (Keep the egg oven, wooden benches, and greenhouse on your right and the health services building at your back.)
You will see two or three "screens" around a low wooden stage. With the UHS building still behind you, sit on the left side of the stage & slide your eyes along the screen in front of you - only one should be at your back and now slightly to your right. See that low stone wall? Look down at the corner closest to you. Near the ground there is a small, rather deep little hole. (It may have some stones in front of it, on the ground.) Reeeach your hand back there and pull out the teeny tiny little letterbox.
