12/8/16 - All ok.

--------------------------

Washington St cemetery is a smaller, older cemetery across Vine street from the Indian Hill Cemetery in Middletown. There is no name posted at the cemetery. It is at the intersection of Washington Terrace and Vine St., just off the intersection of routes 3 and 66. Washington Terrace parallels Rt 66/ Washington St and is one way in this section so you can't turn into it from Vine St (tho someone did when we were there). Just east of Vine turn on Veteran's Way and then go right on Washington Terrace.

Enter the cemetery through the gate on Washington Terrace. There are signs here for the Freedom Trail and the National Register of Historic Places.

Walk straight in and look for Joseph Crosley’s gate. It still works amazingly well despite age and the disappearance of the rest of its parts. Keep going and look for Lieut. Nathaniel Cornell’s marker. He died in 1775 and the tree he was buried under must have been pretty small. It has now grown over some of the other stones.

A little further on you will find Abraham Doolittle and all his wives. To their left is the grave of Mr. William Barth, “the first interred in this yard,” who died in 1741.

Now look for the big tree with about 6 trunks standing in front of Elmira. Look in the center for the Daisy.

There are houses all around here so be discrete. Also, make sure the box is cover and inconspicuous.

While your here and checking out the old stones and great carvings, look for the other box that is nearby.
