9/2/08 The Dolphin was replanted in an easier to get to spot; too many pickers at the old spot.

The Damascus Dolphin was created by our 13-yr-old Damascus Dolphin...a member of the Damascus Swim Team. It is our first letterbox! Please give us feedback.

The Damascus Dolphin wanted to go on a field trip from its home at the Damascus Recreation Pool, which is located off Route 124 in Damascus. GO DOLPHINS!

He went just up the road to:
Valley Park Drive, off Route 124, about a mile from town

But you could also get to
Valley Park drive off Route 27, near the new Oak Drive traffic light.

As he wound his way through the neighborhood and down the hill (from either road, it's down a hill) and sees a traffic calming and a sign that says "Damascus Valley Park"...he thinks, a nice place for a field trip?!

This dolphin gets a bit lost looking for water...can you find him?

Pull over into the parking area near the Trail Head marker.

Enter the Trail Head where the sign reads "Sweepstakes 1.7"
and "Damascus Region Park 3.5".

Find the yellow pole and the metal rail.

Continue on path as the metal rail turns to a wooden rail...

The path winds down and around one corner...see two more metal railings...

Go to end of the third metal railing and see a two-in-one tree with holes on both sides....

Now look down the curving path for a tree with a prominent bend at the bottom...

Keep going around the corner and over one bridge...

At the next bridge...this one says P77-02...look to the left for a trail that follows the creek.

Going about 55-60 paces should bring you to a fallen tree across your path.

Walk along/follow this fallen tree to it's root base, which is hollowed out. NEAR the hollow part, but NOT IN THE HOLLOW PART (DO NOT replace by putting way inside...something could be alive in there!!!!), under a rock, is the dolphin. We guess he thought near the creek would be a neat place to visit...we think so too.

ENJOY!
