In Middletown, Atkins Road runs between Spruce Brook Road and Country Club Road. About half a mile from Country Club Road (on the left) is a blue trail. Turn around, jump the curb and park. Room for one car (?). Bring pink ink.
I think this is about 45 min. one way (if it’s less, let me know). Start off walking through a pine forest (there are two nice ones in the beginning). Keep the blue markers in sight at all times. There’s a motorcycle course that sometimes crosses over and along the trail so be prepared for some wet spots. After quite some time (and passing a nice little horse) you’ll come to a steep ravine in front of you. The trail will go left along the ridge and eventually wind it’s way down to the valley floor. Just after going up a little bitty uphill, start watching on the left for three trees standing at attention with a pyramid pile of rocks in front of them. Look carefully in the center hole of the rocksfor some sunshine.
If you get to a two story snag on the right, with a double orange blaze on it, you went too far.
Speaking of orange, be sure to wear it in the proper months. We found a hunter’s blind along the way.
