This is the fourth box in a series of 5 microboxes representing the five kingdoms of life. The kingdom, Monera, comprises singled-celled prokaryotes (organims that lack nuclei) like bacteria and archaea.

This box can be found on the Barton Creek Greenbelt. Go to the Loop 360 access point (near the intersection of 360 and Mopac). Park your car and walk to the trailhead. There is a short path that runs from the trailhead down to the greenbelt trail near the creek. Follow this path down toward the creek. This trail will meet the main greenbelt trail at a T where there will be a metal post with icons for hikers, bicycles, etc. From this point, bear left. Within five or so steps you’ll see a sign that reads “Loop 360 Access.” Continue to the left. Very soon you will see a wooden bench on the right side on the path. A wooden fence runs along the trail at this point, and the fence is built to accommodate the bench. Go sit on the bench facing the creek. The fence post closest to your right foot has large rocks at its base. There are bacteria under all the rocks in the Greenbelt, but the one you want is under the rocks at the post’s base.
