This letterbox is at the Major Michael Donnelly Land Preserve, 1165 Sullivan Ave. in South Windsor. The round trip to the box should take between thirty and forty-five minutes. Please bring your own ink.

For more information about Major Donnelly, who passed away in 2005, please visit this site: http://www.southwindsor.org/pages/swindsorct_dpw/mmdlp/mmdlp.htm

Note: Note: The majority of the trail at the preserve is unshaded. If you are visiting in warm and/or sunny weather, it would be a good idea to wear a hat, bring sunscreen, and carry water with you. The mosquitoes can be rather nasty in season, so bug repellent is also a good idea. The trail isn't difficult at all, but it can seem more of a challenge than it actually is when the sun is blazing.

From the parking lot, follow the path down toward the pond and gazebo. Take the path on the right after the green shed and before the pond and gazebo. Follow the trail across three wooden bog bridges, and you’ll come to an elevated observation platform on the left. Continue down the path across two more bridges to the third bridge, which has a connecting bridge leading off to the right. Go straight across this bridge, and continue to the next bridge, which will be the fourth one after the elevated viewing platform. Cross the bridge, and take about fifty steps. On your right at the side of the trail will be a low multi-trunked tree. The falcon is nested on the ground behind it. Please rehide well. Retrace your steps to get back to the parking lot. On your way back, as you cross the second bridge, you can take a left to the connecting bridge to a bird blind where you can sit for a bit and observe our feathered friends.
