City Symbol
Basically the Fleur-de-lis is either the official or non-official symbol of Natchitoches. It is associated with its history of being a French colony.
The colony was established in 1714 by Louis Juchereau de St. Denis and was named for the Natchitoches Indian tribe. It is the oldest permanent settlement in the Louisiana Purchase.
Natchitoches is known for its beautiful architecture and historical value. It is the home of Natchitoches meat pies and has a very popular Christmas light and firework spectacular annually.
The City is probably best known as the setting for the movie Steel Magnolias. It has also been the site of filming for several other movies as well.
To the box: Take Second Street to the Natchitoches Event Center. To the left of the building you will find 4 handicapped parking spaces in a row. Immediately to the left of this you will see steps leading up to a side entrance. Just left of these steps is a little garden with crepe myrtles and indian hawthorns. The LB is in the corner against the brick wall (the wall of the staircase.) The fleur-de-lis chosen is from a design used by NSU as a promotional means.
Please re-hide carefully and as good as or better than you found it, and as always watch out for poison ivy, snakes and other critters.
