The first box is nearly a drive-by, but the second is up a short, steep trail, probably not suitable for small children.

Go to the park in Pinole near where an adobe once stood. Park in the lot off of the street near the soccer fields (watch the bumps!). Take the path around to the bridge over the pretty creek. You’ll wander between two sides of a dog park. (I love the sign about little dogs. Kinda reminds me of signs you see at an amusement park!) You will come to a cool, baytree-shaded picnic area. There is a sign warning you of poison oak. HEED IT!

#1 The Mystery Animal
One of these bay trees holds your first treasure. Look for the ‘coin’ number 90 on it. Be sure and have a sip of water at the drinking fountains. You may have heard a strange, non-native animal call on your journey through the park, and you’ll find evidence of this animal in the box!

#2 The Grizzly
Past the poison oak sign, a trail takes you uphill towards a regional park. Imagine this valley before the Gold Rush when the adobe was built. Elk and antelope herds would have roamed the meadows; flocks of ducks filled the air. Mountain lions and yes, even grizzlies stalked their prey in these hills. Just a few turns up is the ‘zig’ of a zigzag, with a complex of bay trees at its point. The ‘coin’ for this is 15. Look up for this box’s hideaway!

P.S. If anyone knows the history of the Victorian house near here, please let me know! Thanks.
