Orange County Arts & Cultural Affairs has hidden Public Art Caches near pieces of public art all around Orange County. This hunt was created in an effort to let more citizens experience public art through an exciting and adventurous journey around Orange County. We hope that, long after you track down one of our Caches, you will continue your search for art.

CYCLE OF LIFE

Commissioned by the City of Orlando, this slightly larger-than-life statue depicts former Orlando mayor William "Billy" Beardall hugging a child who is holding an outstretched hand to a hovering bird. To the artist, William Kilpatrick, the bird represented youth "flying into the future." Like many other Orlando City art commissions, this piece was paid for with money from Orlando's municipal art fund, created by a 1984 ordinance that sets aside 1 percent of qualified capital project monies for the purchase of art.

Drive a half mile South of Orlando City Hall on Orange Avenue and turn left on Gore. The Beardall Senior Center is the second building on your left. This piece of art is located near the corner of Delaney and Gore, in front of the building.

You may need glasses – or better yet, go right up to the statue - to see the details depicted. When you are there. Follow the direction of their gaze. Skip rock to rock from the statue (or take 5 paces) toward the building. Hidden in the taller bushes to your left just before you reach the sidewalk you can find the cache resting under the green leaves although it may be covered by some of the brown leaves too.

Please make sure to not damage the plants in the area. Place the Cache back exactly where you found it for the next hunter who comes along. Also, please cover the Cache back up with the a little of the dead leaves or mulch. Don’t leave your hat behind.

Please feel free to send an e-mail to terry.olson@ocfl.net or call us at (407) 836-5540 to let us know about your hunting experience. If you could not find the Cache, please let us know. Other cache clues can be found at www.ocfl.net/publicartcaches.
