Orange County Arts & Cultural Affairs has hidden Public Art Caches near pieces of public art all around Orange County. This hunt was created in an effort to let more citizens experience public art through an exciting and adventurous journey around Orange County. We hope that, long after you track down one of our Caches, you will continue your search for art.

THE TREE OF PHILOSOPHY

A modern steel and bronze tree with clean, sharp organic appendages. The branches appear to undulate and flow from the base. During the day, sunlight reflects off of its luminous silvery skin. The artist, Gretchen Lothrop, claims that metal is her true love, but she also often infuses her love for music and dance into the sculptures she creates in her North Carolina studio.

At this institute of higher education that stands for opportunity, one might be able to receive answers to philosophical questions. This piece of art can be found at the University of Central Florida main campus in the courtyard between HPA and HPA II buildings. There is short term metered parking in Lot B1 next to the buildings. Stop at the information center for a map.

Only one of these trees holds the answers you seek. Even though they both look a lot alike, the tree that blows outwards with the wind holds the Cache you are looking for. While admiring its beauty, you will notice a black sign. The third bush to your right (one giant step) is where you will find the answers you are looking for. The cache will be under a concrete paver.

Please make sure to not damage the plants in the area. Place the Cache back exactly where you found it for the next hunter who comes along.

Please feel free to send an e-mail to terry.olson@ocfl.net or call us at (407) 836-5540 to let us know about your hunting experience. If you could not find the Cache, please let us know. More cache clues at Other cache clues can be found at www.ocfl.net/publicartcaches.
