8/20/08 Checked on the box today, and it is in place & ready for visitors! PLEASE make sure you repackage the box the same way you found it, and rehide it well!

Clues: moderate
Hike length: about 1 mi. round trip, with steep sections and bushwhacking. Watch children closely, especially at the end!

This letterbox was inspired by a friend of mine who put out a geocache puzzle of a similar name. I liked it so much I decided to make a letterbox in the same mode. I'm making my version a bit easier, though! I hope you enjoy it as well.

To get to the starting point, from I-25 take the Garden of the Gods Rd. exit and head east, where it turns into Austin Bluffs Pkwy. After crossing Union Blvd, continue east until you get to Meadowland Blvd. Turn left. Left onto Westwood, left onto Shadowglen, and finally left onto Flintridge. Go all the way to the end. Park at the very western, dead end of Flintridge.

Go past the barrier and take an immediate right on the dirt path, heading north. DO NOT cross the bridge! It will put you on the wrong side of the canal. After walking on the dirt path for about .2 mi, you'll cross a small wooden bridge. Next, look for a double utility pole on your left, followed shortly by a single pole. At the fork in the trail, take the right side and head northeast up the hill. You'll immediately see another trail intersection. Do not take the trail that heads south; it leads to a private residence. Just go through the intersection and make your way up to the very top of the ridge, which is about 450' east. There is no trail that I could find, so heading to the top will require some moderate bushwhacking. It's worth it, though! There may be a few deer paths you can take, but they may not be the most direct route.

Once at the top of the ridge, head south to the end. Don't go down to the lower level of rock formations. You should be standing on rock and see a large boulder balanced on top. Solve the puzzle below to find out where to go from here.

You can crack this code by brute force, but there is another readily accesible tool that will help you solve it much faster and easier. I'll leave it up to you to find it, though I will tell you that that A=18.

Always check holes with a stick before reaching in! No ink/pen in the box; please bring your own. MAKE SURE that the stamp and logbook are DOUBLE-BAGGED when finished, and please REHIDE BETTER than you found it! I think a lot of kids hang out up here, but the box should be fine if it is hidden well. Please remember to log your visit!
