Birch Mountain Road
Less than 3 miles round trip

Every spring I can’t wait until the return of the hummingbirds. I love working out in the gardens or sitting on the deck to watch these precious little creatures. I have a four-seated feeder that invites them to stop for a nice drink or two during their day. I can sit within 3 feet of it and they aren’t afraid at all. They are amazing!

You probably won’t see any “rubies” while searching for this box, but you will see garnets at your feet. Watch for them as you go along.

Clues:
To get to the trail, head north on Hebron Ave. and turn left at the top of the hill onto Birch Mountain Road. Park near the first green gate you come to which is about a half a mile down the road on the left hand side. When you enter the green gate, take the trail to the right that is approximately 24 steps from the gate.

Follow the blue/white trail passing the 2 huge boulders and going between the 2 smaller trees with the blue/white blazed on each of them. You’ll pass a Nooning Tree and eventually come to rocky ledges. Follow the blue/white blazes right and up the back side of the ledges. You will come to some mature pines then past metal structures to an overlook on the left. Go a little further, bringing you down a small hill. Stop at the 3 trees on the right that form a triangle. Go to ledge at 210 degrees.

Return the way you came. Say hello to Uncle Sam while passing the flagged monument.

Enjoy!
