1) Start by the dumpster in the First Presbyterian Church (17 N Court sq Harrisonburg, VA 22801) parking lot on Elizabeth Street.
2) From the dumpster, turn to the right towards North Main Street.
3) Walk up the Elizabeth Street sidewalk to the traffic light.
4) At the intersection of North Main and Elizabeth, turn right.
5) Walk one block south on Main Street.
6) Cross the street to Court Square. This land was donated by Thomas Harrison to build the first Courthouse.
Did you know that during the Battle of Cross Keys in 1862, prisoners of war were held in the early version of the Courthouse?
7) From the corner, turn right onto the sidewalk towards Cally’s Restauraunt.
8) On your left while walking on the sidewalk, go down the first set of steps that you pass.
9) Walk in between the Rockingham County Courthouse and the handicap ramp. The original Courthouse was only a 20- by- 30 foot building made of logs.
Did you know that the first Courthouse was finished in 1784?
10) Take about 20 steps until you’re almost to the end of the alley, and then look under the ramp.
