Adult Directions

You must begin your search at:
Mac’s Market
5088 Kratzer Rd, Harrisonburg, VA
(540) 833-4141?

Linville Edom Elementary School is near this location. Edom Elementary School was built around 1887. It was then closed when Linville Edom School was built in the fall of 1912.
• Take a left and walk until you reach Linville Congregational Christian Church
• Turn left into the cemetery
Did you know that many teachers rode horseback to and from school?
• Go up the driveway closest to the church
• Walk to the top of the path, until you reach a tombstone on the right that says “Harper”
• Then walk right to the pencil-looking tombstone closest to the fence, the name should say William H.
Once in 1901 there were four 16-year-old boys in the elementary school.
• Follow the fence all the way to the back until you reach a giant bush in the right corner
• You will find the box underneath the right side of the bush.

Linville Edom Elementary School is near this location. Edom Elementary School was built around 1887. It was then closed when Linville Edom School was built in the fall of 1912.
• Take a left and skip until you reach Linville Congregational Christian Church
• Turn left into the cemetery
• Run as fast as you can up the right path to the top of the hill
Some of the first teachers there were; Miss Annie Bare, 1889; Miss Fannies Sperk, 1890-1891.
• Find the tombstone that says “Harper”, to the right of the path; turn right
• Look for the tombstone that looks like a pencil; it should be near the fence
Did you know that many students commuted to school on horseback or in buggies? It soon became necessary for the school to provide shelter for the horses, so the school furnished lumber and labor to build a shed composed of about 25 single stalls.
• From there, take about 80 giant steps towards the back of the graveyard
• Do a rubbing of the hands in the middle of the Rhinehart tombstone
• Search under the tree until you find our box
