The turnoff for the Soapstone Lake trailhead can be found on Highway 53 about four and half miles south of Highway 26. Follow the gravel road east to the marked trailhead parking area. The walk to the lake is a mile and half and the trail around the lake adds about another mile. Bring water shoes for an easy stream crossing.
In the Fall, after spending three years at sea, King Salmon work their way ten miles up Soapstone creek to spawn. The lake is the source of this wild run. On a warm Spring day, the scent of Mephitis mephitis is around the bend. With this view at the fore, look beneath the log at your back.
