Go to the LA Ho Trail at the entrance where the lake will be on your left. (Not the one at the parking lot but the one where you will see a no parking sign) Coming from Hanover it will be on your right before you cross the bridge. You will need to park across the road.
Follow the trail to right passing a white trail marker and over a wooden foot bridge.
Follow trail up slight grade and down the other side.
Cross over a fallen log in the trail.
Walk over a metal culvert.
Cross 2nd wooden foot bridge. Continue on this "rooty" trail, past a single tree in the middle of the path.
At the crossroad, make a right up the paved road. Look for a shagbark hickory on your right. Continue on.
As trail curves to the right, look to your left at the grassy area. You will see an owl bird house amongst the trees. We we fortunate enough to see an ol perched up in the trees to the right in this area, while we were planting this letterbox. You will also see a "cheesy" green handpump as well.(made in Wisconsin)
This area also had trees with "Cedar Apple Rust". Orange rusty gell like substance on the red cedars. If it has rained recently, you will see this as well. Pretty cool.
Now back to the directions...
The trail goes downhill. Make the next left onto a grassy trail. (If you run into the "Dead Sea" on your right, you've missed your turn) You will pass yet another birdhouse on your right a short way down the trail. Continue walking passing aclearing on your right with a birdhouse in a clump of trees. (Red maple and hickory)
From this point walk forward further up the trail 55 steps.
I am 6'3", so it may be a few more steps.
Look to you left. You will see a small unmarked deer trail, with 2 tree rails pointing the way. Walk a short distance and you will see a stump directly in front of you. Face right and walk 7 steps from this stump where 2 fallen friends meet. " X marks the spot" Yo Ho Ho and a Jolly Roger Letterbox!!!
