Sleeping Giant State Park is on Mt. Carmel Road off of route ten in Hamden, a map is invaluable to hike here. Park at the Chestnut Lane entrance (or at the other end and walk the whole way over (Sadie and Russ like to do this for my boxes :-).

On a recent New Haven boxing foray, Gizz and I ran into a very nice young couple who told us their name means Oak in their native language. They gave me permission (after I begged pathetically) to plant a box using this name. Thanks to them a box is born.

From the sign board take the orange trail, crossing over the blue trail, crossing over the yellow/green crossover trail, crossing over the red square trail and just after that intersection the trail goes steeply uphill on rocky gully type terrain. You’ll come to a one second level spot and then continue UP. Just before (30 steps before to be exact) a substantial level area (and a left bend) look right for a big two sister oak (it once had another sibling) look behind under rocks.

Recover well.
