David’s Birthday Box

This letterbox is at Carver Pond in Bridgewater, MA.

Directions:
Take Rt. 24 until Exit 15 (Rt. 104). Take Rt. 104 towards Bridgewater and follow all the way to the end. Take a left onto South Street and go to the Bridgewater Rotary. Take a right onto School Street off of the rotary. You will see the Town Hall and fire station on the left. At the end of School Street, take a right onto Summer Street. Follow Summer Street around to the left. Right after you see the sign for the Bridgewater State College Weather Station and Observatory on the left, Carver Pond will be up on your right. There is a small parking lot that holds about 4 to 5 cars.

Directions to the letterbox:

This walk is great for kids and will last about a ½ hour. Bugspray is recommended in the summer. This walk is not handicapped accessible or stroller friendly.

This area is used by college students from Bridgewater State University, so there is usually some litter along the way. If you are interested, you may want to bring a trash bag along to pick up the litter as you go.

Park in the small lot at Carver Pond. Take the main path until you come to a small field. You can see the pond straight ahead. Stay on the skinny path that goes to the right. You’ll soon come to a little stone bridge. Cross over the bridge and continue on to the left, which will follow the pond. You may see Canada geese and lots of lily pads on the pond. The path will become somewhat grass covered. Keep going! You will come to a second little concrete bridge; cross over and continue on the path. You will notice a lot of roots, so be careful. The trail will wind around to your left. You will arrive at a fork in the path leading up both sides of a large bowl. Follow the path around the bowl to the left. There is a tree that has fallen across the path. Step over it and proceed up the little hill. The view of the pond is great from here if there aren’t too many leaves. Continue on the path down the hill - keeping the pond on your left. Eventually, you will come to another fallen tree blocking the path. Step over it and follow the path around to the right. After you reach the top of a small slope, you have to go left or right. Go left. After two giant trees on your right, you will see a small path going off to the right. Turn down this path and stop when you get to the large decaying log on the right side of the path. There is a hollow place at the front of the log which is covered with lots of leaves and pine needles. Remove the leaf covering and find the box!

Please re-cover carefully!

Go back to the main path and take a left to return. You can take a right to go back the way you came or straight to go a new way. The paths rejoin again at the bowl.

We hope you enjoyed your walk! This is the second letterbox that we’ve placed at Carver Pond. Our last one was taken, so please re-hide very carefully! Let us know if you have any problems.
