Start at the local summer theater in Tamworth Village. Follow Great Hill Road @2.6miles to intersection of Hemenway Road. There is ample parking beneath the Beech trees. To the right of the kiosk, is an orange gate. Enjoy the hike to the tower. Along the way, you will see an orange gate on the left. IGNORE IT. Continue up the hill. You will come upon a second orange gate on the left. This is the trail you want. You will see two utility poles (YES utility poles). One with a transformer on it. At this pole turn right. Compass reading 140degrees. Keep on trail passing an old well on the right. Keep going ~ you're almost there. There is it! The Great Hill Tower. Go ahead, climb the stairs & enjoy the fantastic view. Have a picnic if you wish. When you re ready, stand with the stairs to your immediate right & facing East, you will see a large boulder. Compass reading 60degrees or @20 adult steps. Hidden behind the boulder & under sticks & twigs, is what you are looking for. As always, we ask you to rehide what you have found. ADDITIONAL NOTE: There will be a dedication ceremony at this tower on Saturday, October 4th at 3PM. This dedication is being held because the Tower has been added to the National Historic Lookout registry, joining 20 other NH Firetowers.
