The little boy grinned as his Grammy swung her car into the Westminster Community Pond on Route 140 West in Westminster, MD. As she unbuckled his child seat he giggled and said, “Up down! Up down!”

“Oh, you want to go up and down, do you?” she asked, and he nodded. They got out of the car. Grammy pointed at the playground equipment near the Route 140 road. “Do you want to go up the steps and down the slide?” she asked. He shook his head no and said, “It’s not there.”

The pair walked from the parking lot to the edge of the community pond, gazing toward the little island in the middle. Two ducks bobbed on the water. Grammy turned right and walked along the edge of the pond. Just ahead was a sandy area with a swing set. She thought she knew what her little boy wanted. She asked, “Do you want to go up and down on the swings?” but he shook his head no.

They passed the swings and walked along the edge of the pond, rounding the corner near a pavilion. They walked on, the pond on their left, a line of woods on their right. They passed an opening in the trees. Just a little bit past that they saw a walking path on the right that led into the trees, to a wooden bridge that crossed the stream. “Let’s go down this path,” Grammy suggested, and the little boy grinned.

Just before crossing the bridge, Grammy stepped off to the right. There were three large trees near the water. She circled a large maple tree with four trunks. Bending down, she scooped away some pine needles and leaves and reached into an indentation at the bottom of the trunk. She pulled out a container. She opened it up and looked at the stamp inside. When she saw the stamp, she knew what her grandson wanted to do.

This box is kid friendly, in a 3 acre park with a community pond, a playground, and a picnic pavillion. Dogs are allowed, but please clean up after them.
