The USS Key West is a Los Angeles-class nuclear submarine of the US Navy. My husband served as an Electrician's Mate for four years aboard this submarine; this box is to commemorate both his service, his frequently fond memories of "the boat," and to show you one of the coolest places we saw on our trip to O'ahu.

First, go to #6 Lumahai Street. You can park in front, the occupant won't mind. (You'll see). There is public beach access next door. Head down the trail. USE CAUTION, watch your footing.

Once you get to the bottom "step," and can see the ocean fully, continue to your left (northeast) along the rock for about five feet. Just before you get to the greenery, look at the rock wall. There is a rock tucked under the bushes, about chest height, on a small ledge. The Key West is behind these two rocks.

Before you head back up the trail, admire the amazing view! And, if you are sure-footed and not afraid of heights, head left down the rocks to the point with the rather pitiful guard wire. It is from here that your can see the Spitting Cave -- best time for spitting is high tide!

Also, if you see kids jumping off the cliff, it's OK -- it actually is a dive point! (I wouldn't try it myself, but I prefer my skull intact, thanks).

Don't forget to log your find online, and contact us if the box needs any maintenance.

Good luck, and enjoy!
