**As of August 20, 2010 this box is retired/archived.**

Maintenance Note: A new log book replaced the full one on Aug 8, 2009.

Todd’s Pond is a picnic area on a busy street in a residential neighborhood in North Haven, CT. Here you'll find a small pond, a bridge, a spillway, some picnic tables and benches and the geese and ducks who call this pond home. This goose decided to fly away.

Aug 9, 2009. A few more notes about Todd's Pond. There are fewer geese than when I first planted this box. There are still many ducks and the heron that I've seen in late summer still visits. There is now a protective fence put up on one side of the pond and seedlings planted to create a vegetative buffer to help prevent water pollution, slow water runoff, create nesting areas, shelter wildlife and manage other environmental concerns. There are signs put up to Please Do Not Feed the Waterfowl out of concern for the birds -- to make sure they migrate when they should when food gets scarce, to prevent malnutrition and to help the pond water stay clean, free of algae and free of unhealthy bacteria. Please respect these requests when you visit this letterbox.

This is my first plant and one of my first carves.

Directions:
Todd’s Pond is across from where Bailey Rd meets Maple Ave.
There’s a small parking area for 2-3 cars on Maple Ave.

Some stealth may be needed. This is a popular place for short visits (folks with children staying just long enough to visit the geese and ducks) and much of it can be seen from neighboring properties and the road. If you continue past the box location and go over the bridge, there is a bench and a picnic table on the other side -- perhaps good places to stamp in, since visitors tend to stay closer to the parking area. I hope you enjoy your visit.

From the parking area, take the gravel path. Turn right and walk toward the 5 trunk tree. Past this tree, on the right as you walk toward the bridge, there are some bushes with two rocks in front of them. Sit down on the rock closest to the bridge. As you sit facing the pond, glance down to your left and then back. Within easy reach, under the two bare branches of a bush, where they meet the trunk, under the leaves, you can find Fly Away Goose.

Please be discreet and re-hide well.
