Find the state park located off Route 404. Heading East to the beaches, hang a left on Ridgely Rd (Rte 480) and an immediate left onto Eveland Rd. Go past the park office and on up to Crouse Mill Rd. Turn right and an immediate left onto Cherry Ln.
One of the park entrances – to the campsites – will be ahead on the left. If the campsites are closed (out of season) then the gate will be closed, but you can park and walk in.
At the first junction turn right. Just past the parking for the Disc Golf is a parking area on the left at the trail head for Lore of the Land Nature Trail. You have arrived.
Follow the trail 1..2..3..4..etc. When you reach the junction where Left is Campground and Right is Nature Trail – go 60 steps towards the campground when early in the AM the aroma of fresh brewed coffee may waft your way. On the right is a pristine (as in no one has carved their initials in it!!) beech with large double trunks (not including the dead piece). A pond liner covered in nature’s debris shields this puzzling box.
Please note that the campground road is passing very near by, so stamp in back on the Nature trail or at least out of view.
Resume your stroll around the Nature trail in search of other treasures.
