Castle Rock is known as the Gateway to Mount St. Helens. The visitor center is five miles east of I-5 on Spirit Lake Memorial Highway ( SR 504 East).
Start at the Visitor Center/Interpretive Center. Follow the signs that say "Trail".
Find the Circle of Catastrophic Events. Take four steps back from the sign, take a magnetic heading of about 170 degrees, and walk to the circular viewing area. On the building side of the circle there is a large tree with a large stump next to it. At the base of the tree there are two large pieces of bark underneath a salal plant. The box hides beneath.
(GPS coordinates are 46 17'653"N 122 49'311"W, if you prefer to find it that way.)
