The last time anyone counted, Edwards County had 2,013 humans and 154,144 Angora goats.

Who is the coolest guy, what is, what am?
That's fast-talkin' - slow walkin' - good-lookin' Mohair Sam.

The County Seat, Rocksprings, is the headquarters of the American Angora Goat Breeders Association, which was founded in Missouri in 1898 and moved to Rocksprings in 1926. The organization houses complete records on Angora goats registered in the United States.

The region that became Edwards County was home to Lipan Apache Indians. Spain established the mission of San Lorenzo de la Santa Cruz in 1762 to help Christianize the Indians, but was otherwise unable to settle the area. White settlement in the region did not begin until the mid-1800s. The early settlers of this region soon realized that the area was not suitable for farming, but that it did supply ample natural food for sheep and angora goats. Ranching began to dominate the county as the demand for wool and mohair increased in the early twentieth century. Rocksprings calls itself the "Top-o-the-World" in mohair production.

Directions:
From Interstate 10 at Junction, Texas, take Highway 377 southwest 47 miles to Rocksprings, Texas. Just before you get into town, look for Rocksprings Cemetery on the left. Drive into the cemetery and look for the section markers, which have mosaic letters on terracotta tiles. Look for section “B” on the left and the arched “Hampton” grave marker. Park here.

To the box:
Look right to a fence line (you’ll only see cedar posts as the wire is long gone) and seek out the Roe family plot. The plot has a concrete curb around it and a medium size cedar tree growing within the curbed area. Directly behind the tree is a cedar post and another just to its right. Look down at the base of this post, under rocks, and you’ll find Mohair Sam, the coolest guy in town.
