Boyd Woods (my new favorite place to hike) is located on Route 254 which runs from Route 118 in Litchfield to route 6 in Thomaston. The sanctuary is on the right side 1.5 miles from route 118.

Park in the parking lot adjacent to the hayfield. NO DOGS PLEASE. Check out the kiosk for information about Boyd Woods and a trail map.

From the kiosk in the parking lot go down the hill parallel to the stone wall and follow the trail shown on the trail map as “The Lane”. It will take you through the Monarch Meadow and meet up with the blue trail at the northwest corner. Go right on blue around the left side of the pond until you see the orange trail on the left. Go left on orange, downhill, then along the brook and eventually the trail turns away from the brook and you’ll come to an ached bridge (reminds me of trolls). Just before the bridge there’s a flat rock in the middle of the trail. Standing on this rock and looking right you’ll see a good size Oak (?) and in back of that (which you can’t see from the flat rock) is a two sister tree 23 steps into the woods. Look behind the sisters for a nice hole. Recover with natural debris.
You may retrace your steps or continue on Orange, taking a sharp right, going uphill and eventually you’ll hear and then see traffic on route 254. At the T go left on blue and then right on white to get you back to your car.
