After Pa fixed the wagon wheel the family headed west. They traveled quite some distance through the town of Austin where Jack, their dog, went nuts for all the SPAM.
After eating more than his fill, he needed help from Pa to get into the wagon . . . for he was to full to walk. It was just a few miles past Austin (that took a several hours by Covered Wagon) when Jack perked up and wanted to run around.
Just off the main road they found Oakland Woods, a nice place for them to stop, rest & stretch their muscles.
Jack bounded out of the wagon and ran to the eastern excercise area . . . he ran down the side walk past a shelter to a picnic table to his right and off into the woods he sprinted.
Hours later, the Ingalls were ready to go, "JACK!" shouted Laura, "Pa, we can't leave without Jack."
Pa walked to the woods edge, "JACK! JACK!!" Pa waited a few minutes and walked back to the Wagon, turning to the woods again he gave one more attempt at calling their dog back before deciding to head out without him.
Jack came to a tree behind the picnic table and found a cozy little hole to crawl up and huddle in.
Jack is in a very small box, don't glance and assume he is missing, he's a good dog and I'm sure he will stay.
