Clue difficulty: Easy

Terrain Difficulty: Medium (1 - 1 1/2 hour paddle & small hill)

Description: This is the real Florida! There is abundant wildlife including Gators (yes you will see them-no they won't bother you if you don't bother them) river otter, lots of turtles & birds. You will have to canoe 30-45 minutes downstream & back to reach this letterbox. It is an very peaceful easy paddle with a slow current. Stop & have a picnic near the letterbox!

Directions: The Hillsborough River State Park is located on Hwy 301 north of Tampa. Visit their web site for more information http://www.dep.state.fl.us/parks/district4/hillsboroughriver/index.asp There is a fee of $3.25 per car to enter the park. You can launch your own canoe or rent one from the outpost. Prices to rent are $8.00 per hour or $20.00 for 4 hours.

** Fees have changed so expect to pay a little more than this**

Clue: After entering the park follow the road to parking lot 4. This is where the outpost is. Launch the canoe near the red canoe. Paddle 30-45 minutes downstream until you see a yellow sign that says "Dead River Park." Land your canoe on the landing to the left (not in front of the yellow sign) Go up the small hill & at the top turn left. Count 13 paces & on your left you will see an oak tree. The letterbox is located behind this tree at the base. If it is easier to land at the dead river sign just walk over to the top of the other landing & start counting. There are some very beautiful oak trees in this area look around!

Happy Hunting
