Looks like this one is gone. It's still a good hike tho'.

The box is in Satan’s Kingdom State Recreation Area. Apparently this was a pretty lawless settlement a couple of hundred years ago.
It’s not a long hike but you will need to do some rock climbing. Bring bug spray and watch out for poison ivy.

Directions: The entrance to Satan’s Kingdom is on Rt. 44 about half way between Rt. 179 and Rt. 219. It’s across the street from Portobello Restaurant and Marandino’s Grocery store.

Clues: Enter and drive in as far as you can and park. This is a set off point for tubing on the Farmington River so it’s probably pretty busy on a nice summer day. From wherever you park, walk to the end of the parking lot and the short extension to the road. From there follow the yellow/blue trail straight ahead. Go down to the river and right under the road. A short way further on the blue trail will go off to the right. Stay on yellow.

You will come to a spot where you can see a man-made wall across the river. Then you will have to ford a spring (watch for loose rocks) and go through a wet area with mini waterfalls on the rock face to the right. (This could probably dry up later in the summer.) There are also a number of fallen trees leaning against the rock face. Soon there will be a giant boulder into the river. Keep going till you see the forked stump. When you get here, turn around and look at the tree with the yellow blaze. The box is below and to the left, under a rock and behind the usual debris. It’s a tight fit so make sure to cover well when you’re done.

This is my first carve so be kind!

Reduce, reuse, recycle – I’ve received many comments lately about the types of boxes I use. Use your imagination, look around you and especially in the trash. You’ll probably find many things that could be used as “boxes”.
