ONE FISH,... TWO FISH,...
#1 Box has been replanted as of 14 Aug 09
We've ALL read a little Dr. SEUSS at one point or another...2 NEW carvings I couldn't RESIST after finding My Girls' Story book.
From 95, take exit 92 Pawcatuck exit. From south, take Right. at light. from North, take left, and left again onto Rt. 2 at intersection (light). Follow Rt. 2 south to R.R. Bridge over Intersection,IMMEDIATE right onto Mechanic St./River Rd. You'll Pass by C.C. O'Brian's Cafe. FROM WESTERLY Rt. #1,..Come to the train bridge just after crossing the Pawcatuck River & go left on to Mechanic St./River Rd. Follow this Rd. With the River on your left for a Scenic drive through Pawcatuck CT... AT STOP SIGN, (Mary Hall Rd.), You'll be going exactly 1/10th Mi. to a Parking Lot on your left with 2 green gates & a sign board.
ONE FISH,...
Start your journey behind the green gate next to the signboard. You will have a cove on your right for most of the journey. Soon you will come to a "Very Sandy/ Wide open area" just before you reach the river. Stand in the center of this "Sandy Circle" and take a bearing of 350 degrees, and aprox. 23 paces to a couple of large Bayberry bushes. Inbetween is a very faint path, follow this between the two Bayberries & behind the one on your left under a couple of well placed rocks is your prize.
TWO FISH,...
After finding your last prize, Head toward the river, keeping the "Cove" on your right. Go counter-clockwise around a "Rotary" (couple of boulders with bushes around them). Straight across the RiverYou will see RIVERBEND CEMETERY,.. enjoy the the river, boats & scenary for awhile! To continue your journey head North (up - River), until you come to a "Y" in the Path. GO LEFT!.
You should see Two Rocks "HUGGING" each other underneath a CEDAR tree just before you Hit river again. STOP! Look Left, & down, you should see an old piece of drain pipe and a Triangular Flat faced rock will be in front of you. behind it is a "ROCK HAVEN". There is a "Y" shaped maple sapling on the right, A different 6 fingered maple on the left, between them over 2 round boulders you go. STOP! Immediately on your right is a slightly larger round boulder and underneath, is your PRIZE! Back to your car is the way you came. ENJOY this short hike!!
