Maintenance Note: As of August 7, 2010 both boxes are in new containers, the stamps have been repaired and they are ready and waiting to be found.

These boxes were placed by MAHiker and GS Troop 60354 on 6/1/2008 and adopted by Leilani's Aunt on 3/19/2010.

The clues as written by MAHiker:
North Haven, CT
This new series is found at Peter’s Rock Park in North Haven. This series is created by Junior Girl Scout troop #60354 as part of their Bronze Award project. The project was completed in June 2008. We helped over 100 North Haven girl scouts make their own letterboxing kits – so you should be seeing more girl scouts logging in to letterboxes in Connecticut!

Driving Directions:
I-91, Exit 9.
Southbound: Right off exit, right at light onto Montowese Ave. under highway *see north bound clues.

Northbound: Right off exit onto Montowese Ave. *Continue straight through traffic light at Quinnipiac Ave. (Rte. 103) to the next traffic light at Middletown Ave. (Rte. 17). Turn right onto Middletown Ave and continue to the nice new parking lot on the left behind the gas station at 133 Middletown Ave.

Difficulty: Most of the hike is moderate with some inclines. The series can probably be completed in less than 90 minutes. The trails can be muddy.

Beware of ATVs in the lower sections. This is designated Open Space and their use here is not sanctioned, but has continued nonetheless.

Clues:
Download the new color trail map found at:
http://www.petersrockassociation.org/links.htm (this will be very helpful as you follow the clues)

The first letterbox, “Peter’s Rock Pavilion” is on the khaki trail (unmarked as of June 08) just off the blue (royal blue blazes) trail on the east side of the park. These directions should get you there…(it is recommended you bring a trail map with you!).

Head out on the red trail. Turn right on the light blue trail. Follow light blue to orange (careful – trail has a lot of turns, just keep following light blue blazes). If you look at the trail map there is a shortcut light blue to get to the orange but does not seem to be blazed yet (June 08). In any case, take a right on the orange trail. Cross the little river (there is a cool bridge but it is off the trail surrounded by skunk cabbage! But the little river is very easy to cross). Come to a big clearing – orange turns right but you should walk straight ahead and you will come to green trail blazes going right or left. Turn right on the green trail. As you climb up the green trail notice the spring on your left (not sure if it’s safe to drink). You will come to an intersection with green, red & orange – continue on the green. Then you will reach the blue (royal blue blazes). Now it’s a tad tricky because the khaki trail is unmarked (as of June 08). You are looking for the unmarked khaki trail on your right (about 225 paces from the start of the blue trail after your climbing has leveled off). Walk up the unmarked trail 22 paces. On your right you will see a three-sister tree off the trail with a small hole in the front (it’s not in the hole – that’s too small!). The Peter’s Rock pavilion letterbox is behind the tree buried under rocks at the base.

The second letterbox, “Troop 60354 Bronze Award” is found on the north end of the green trail just south of the intersection with the red trail. Follow the blue trail back to the green trail – turn right. At the intersection with the red trail – take the second right (both are rights are red trail, the first right will take you to the summit). You are looking for the intersection with the green trail. This is a sharp left. Count 38 paces while looking on your left for a two-sister tree. It won’t look like a two sister tree from where you are standing after you walk 38 paces so it's a good idea to look for it while you count the paces. It is 16 paces off trail. There is a big hole in the middle. The “Troop 60354 Bronze Award” letterbox is in this hole covered with rocks.

Retrace your steps back to the red trail and turn left to head back to your car on the red trail.
