Background: This box was hidden June 3, 2008, during the renovation to our most famous structure, Casemate #11 that was seen on the Sci Fi Channel's "Ghosts Hunters" and the History Channel's "Cities of the Underworld." The rooms were buried underground for over 130 years and were found by accident on August 26th, 2006. Seen then we have been working to restore the rooms so the public can come and visit a piece of history unseen in the United States. Parts of the rooms were built in the 1770's, others in the 1810's and the rest the 1850's. But best of all they housed prisoners during the Civil War, one in particular, William H. Howe (no relation to the British General) who was held here and then hung at the Fort for desertion from the Army and murder. The rooms are almost complete and you may be able to visit them by the third week in June. So, the best time to come is July 5th. That's our Annual Freedom Blast, a celebration to Independence Day and the rooms should be open to explore.
Also as equally spectacular are the ghosts that are said to haunt the Fort and its buildings, especially the Casemate's (Dungeons.) We hold candlelight ghosts tours in October, which are not really suitable for young children. But I recommend visiting during the day when we have one of our weekend Special Events, like Freedom Blast July 5th or Pirate's Day August 23rd. Okay. Ready to find our Letterbox?

Clue: Virtually no walking involved.
This is a new box, so you may be the first to find it. After entering the Fort's Main Gate, walk Northwest toward the Officers Quarters. As you get to the point where you have the Enlisted Quarters directly to your right, the Officers Quarters in front of you and the Blacksmith to your left, stop. Turn toward the Southwest and walk until you run into a yellow wall. Turn northwest again and walk toward the tunnel in the wall until you reach a doorway through the Fort walls. Stop before you get wet and turn northwest. Follow the outside wall of the Fort until you come to a "V" and look down. Its not here. So, turnaround and head Southwest from where you came. Turn Southeast and walk until you are in front of the building that looks like it housed horses. Look for a pillar that looks like a hallow log and here you will find the Letterbox. Enjoy. But please be VERY discreet, as the area can get very busy and we don't want Muggles finding the secret.
