FIFTH ANNUAL TRAILS DAY HIKE!
For 2008, we hiked the Upper Hammonasset Trail, managed by the Killingworth Land Conservation Trust. Take Bargate Trail from its southern end, to just before the first traffic circle. Turn around and park on the west side of the road, as close to the curb as possible. Through the leaves you will spot a KLCT sign and reddish-orange-with-white-dot blaze. Begin there.
This is a beginners' box! Follow the trail to where it meets the reddish-orange-blazed main trail, just before the river. Look right. See a two-sister birch? Look behind it, under rock and bark. (15 minutes round trip). Enjoy other boxes in the area!
