WnindMill Point-HullGut- Point Pemberton
The tip of the peninsula of Hull has had many names. The name of Windmill Point(once named for the windmills that powered it's salt works)was reinstated in the 1980's.
History:
During the 1970's gas shortage a far sighted High school science teacher named Bob Cocherin gained a grant for installing a wind generated power system behind the school next to the seawall. This was to provide power to the school. And in the summer to turn back the meter to the School. After it's total distruction it was replaced by a wind turbine system. The first in Massachusetts. And this was installed in the spring of 1985.Providing 20% of Hull High's power. However in a no name Gail spring of 1997 the blades were shared of when the breaking system failed.
The Hull light and power company and the high school teamed up to support the present Wind Turbine called a Vestas made in Denmark.I is now called Hull Wind Turbine 1.
It has a power rate of 660kw and came at a price of $698.699.
To get to this Letterbox
Get to Nantaskot Ave in Hull, as it goes around the cemetary it turns into Spring Street, then you go right ,on to Main Street this dead ends behind the ballfield next to the high school.
Park in one of the legal spaces along the side of the road by the snailshell walk. Do not block fire roads.
Now you get to walk right up to the base of the Wind Turbine! When it's door is in front of you look down at it's base.Walk to the nearist cornor on your right.
Look at the Sea Wall. Near the top Peter's name is halved by a crack. Use this crack as an arrow pointing Down . Go to it's Base. Aproox. 2 feet infront of the wall is a pile of rocks.
And under this pile is what you came looking for.
Put box back in hole and restack rocks carefuly so you don't brake the box.
Have Fun Enjoy the water and views.
