Since 1950 Totem Pole Playhouse has provided professional summer theatre to residents and visitors of the Cumberland Valley of Pennsylvania.

Now in its third location in beautiful Caldonia State Park, the theatre was first led by artistic director Karl Genus from 1951 to 1953. For the next thirty years the late Willam H. Putch guided the Playhouse into national prominence, working closely with his wife, actress Jean Stapleton (Edith Bunker). He was responsible for 270 productions at Totem Pole in addition to directing several national tours.

The mission of Totem Pole Playhouse includes providing arts education opportunities for area residents. The popular theatre camps for students and the Theatre Family Funfest are programs included in this outreach.

From Route 30 East, turn right at the light onto Route 233 South/Rocky Mountain Road. Quickly bear to the left on Golf Course Road. Totem Pole Playhouse is just a short distance ahead on the left.

Enter the upper parking area for the playhouse at the second entrance. Go past one row of concrete parking barriers on the right to the next row. Park your vehicle at the first barrier if available.

Look to the first mighty tree in front of you. It is an old pine that seems to be coming down the bank. Walk up behind the pine. At the base you will see where the plot thickens.
