Total distance one way is about .25 miles. Begin your search in the parking lot of Sand Hill Park in Essex. Use the left most trailhead from the parking lot while facing the tennis courts. Stay left, at your first intersection marked by a double orange rectangle trail marker. There will be another double orange trail marker 30 feet from there, stay left again toward a row of very large pine trees. At the next intersection, the trail splits on two sides of a gully. Stay to your left. It will appear that you are heading towards a backyard. (You will not actually make it to the yard. You can wave if you see a man there, it is probably JagerMeister.) At the very big pine stump in the corner of his yard, stay right on the trail. At your next intersection, the trail splits into blue and orange trail markings. Follow the blue trail to the left. At the next intersection, take a left down a small hill. (The trail loops back if you continue to the right.) Proceed 28 feet mid-way down the hill and take a left off of the trail 18 feet to a hemlock with its roots exposed. You will find the first box in the roots.

Get back on the trail and continue down the hill following the orange trail markers until you come to a steep gully. You will find a very large downed pine tree. The base is resting near the top of the hill and the tree top is resting in the gully. Stand at the remains of this tree (very tall with many woodpecker holes in it) on the opposite side of the fallen limb. Go 50 feet at 310ยบ. The second box is hiding at the base of a tall stump at the backside of the mound covered by an unnatural pile of bark and sticks.
