Tiny Taunton, Minnesota was named after Taunton, Massachusetts, which is notable for being the first community to ever fly a patriotic colonial flag. The year was 1774, and the flag was the Liberty and Union flag.

To find the letterbox honoring this flag, you will need to find the veterinarian clinic in Taunton. Park in their lot, and walk to the neat rows of trees on the backside of the lot. Find the largest tree in the group (hint--look to the left). Turn away from the highway, and stand with your back against the trunk of this tree. Directly in front of you will be a smaller tree. Just beyond this tree is a row of bushes. The one you see just to the right of this smaller tree is the keeper of the letterbox. Look in the center of the group of trunks that make up this bush. Please be sure to cover it well before you leave.
