This box is located at Bradley University in Peoria, IL. Bradley is a private, medium-sized college; it was founded in 1897 by Lydia Moss Bradley, in honor of her husband and six children, all of whom died relatively early in life. The university is located at 1501 W. Bradley Ave. We attended Bradley, where we met and began dating as freshmen, from 2002-2006. This box commemorates the wonderful memories we have of the school.
From I-74, exit at University St. and head south. You will cross Main St., and very shortly after will make a right into the main campus entrance. Go straight at the four-way stop, and then turn left into the visitors’ parking lot. The lot is controlled access, and you will need to press a button to raise the bar and enter the lot, except for certain times/seasons, when the bar is left up. When the bar is down, you will need a quarter to exit the lot.
During the summer, all campus parking spots are open to anyone, but while school is in session, you will get a ticket for parking anywhere but in the visitors’ lot. The lot does fill up during busy days, and unfortunately, there are currently no other visitor parking areas. NOTE: Campus is currently undergoing huge construction projects, including the creation of a new parking garage – we will update once we figure out whether or not there are new visitor parking spaces.
After parking, walk to the sidewalk to the north of the parking lot, and follow it toward campus. You will come to a large intersection; cross it and continue on the sidewalk. Find the statue of Mrs. Bradley – you would think they would have at least sculpted her smiling!
While facing Mrs. Bradley, look to your left and find the silver "cage." Follow the path across the quad to reach the far side of the cage, in front of the Cullom-Davis Library. Put your back to the clock tower and walk toward the Olin Hall of Science. Before you get there, turn right onto the path that curves around the library. Then take the first path going right, into a circular seating area.
Find the fire department connection and face it. Bend down and reach around the corner to your left, under the evergreen bush. Be sure to check around the corner, not just along the wall you are facing, and please rehide the box well; the groundskeepers are very active at Bradley, and we don’t want them to stumble on the box and think it is trash!
