Run Through the Park

This letterbox is now missing :(

*I HAVE BEEN TOLD THAT THERE IS SOME POISON IVY ON THIS HIKE, SO PLEASE BE CAREFUL!!*

This letterbox is hidden at Spencer Creek Park at the corner of Sutters Mill Road and Plum Tree Drive in St. Peters, Missouri. There are two different routes. One is a little bit more adventurous (it has a few steep areas). The other is shorter and easier. Choose which ever you prefer, however, I suggest you read both before making your decision. Please contact me on Atlasquest to let me know if you found this letterbox! (and please, do NOT attempt this letterbox in a skirt!!) Thanks!!

Adventurous
Park in the parking lot next to the pavilion. Take small path going south across the parking lot and towards the tennis courts. Make your way to a bridge on your right. After crossing the bridge, follow the path until you reach the jungle gym. You will see a welcome sign. With your back to the colorful side of the welcome sign, you will notice a small dirt path leading into the woods. Follow it straight until you see the creek. You will notice three steep dirt paths following the creek to your right. Follow the one in the middle for approximately 9 steps until you find a little bridge made of rocks across the creek. Cross the “bridge” until you reach a large rocky “island” in the middle of the creek. Walk to the left across the sandbank until you see a large curved concrete slab to your right on the “wall” of the creek. Cross another rock bridge to reach this slab. Climb up the slab (this is a rather steep climb, however there are some roots coming from the ground which you could use in helping to pull yourself up). NOTE: If creek is overflowing and rock bridge is not visible or you cannot climb up the concrete slab, use easier route (shown below). Follow overgrown path to the left (POISON IVY!!)(you will hop over a fallen tree along the way). At the end of the path, you will be overlooking the creek once more. Follow another path to the right for approximately 6 steps. Look towards the creek. You will find “steps” made out of tree roots. Follow them down to the creek (be very careful!! It helps if you descend the steps as you would a ladder). Take approximately 10 steps to your left. Turn to your left and you will see a tree with its roots protruding from the dirt wall. Some of these roots do not belong to this tree. Remove a few logs and rocks to find your treasure. Please place everything back as you found it and hide the letterbox very well so that kids cannot come and find it!! Thank you!!
To get out, go back up the “steps” and to the concrete slab (but do not go down the slab). Pass the slab and continue onto the path. Follow the path out of the woods and you will see the parking lot and pavilion.

Shorter/Easier
Park in the parking lot next to the pavilion. Standing in the parking lot, face the pavilion. If you go towards the pavilion and to your left towards the woods, you will come upon a dirt path leading into the woods. Follow this dirt path. You will reach an area where you can go down onto a concrete slab or keep following the path. Keep following the path (it will be slightly overgrown ((WITH POISON IVY!!)) and you will hop over a fallen tree along the way). At the end of the path, you will be overlooking the creek once more. Follow another path to the right for approximately 6 steps. Look towards the creek. You will find “steps” made out of tree roots. Follow them down to the creek (be very careful!! It helps if you descend the steps as you would a ladder). You will see a wooden plank at your right (if no plank is visible just walk 10 steps to the left). Go toward it and place it at your back. Take approximately 10 steps forward. Turn to your left and you will see a tree with its roots protruding from the dirt wall. Some of these roots do not belong to this tree. Remove a few logs and rocks to find your treasure. Please place everything back as you found it and hide the letterbox very well so that kids cannot come and find it!! Thank you!!
