Bats In The Belfry East Killingly CT. Rating Easy Planted By The NeeDeeps 6-1-03 Directions: On RT.101 in East Killingly pull into Our Lady Of Peace Catholic Church and park in the back of the lot by the ball field. The Church will be across the street from General Auto Repair. When I was a kid I went to Church here, this is where I made my first communion and my comfirmation.Across the street that repair shop used to be a gas station and general store where I bought all my candy. And that ball field was just a hay field with a couple of crabapple trees in it,but thats where all us neighborhood kids used to play baseball & football.I can remember sometimes when it was getting dark bats used to fly around the field and back towards the church,we used to take crabapples and throw them in the air when the bats flew over head and they would dive after them. But if you tell people that you used to play with bats they might think you got BATS IN YOUR BELFRY.Ok now from the back of the parking lot enter the ball field and go to the left past a porta pottie.Keep walking all the way to the back of the field with the woods on your left, when you get to the back of the field there will be a couple of mounds of dirt,go between the mounds of dirt and the woods on your left and enter a trail that goes into the woods. As soon as you enter the woods there will be a stone wall on your left, walk down and around the corner of the wall to the second tree in the wall from the corner.About 3 feet past the second tree in the wall behind a stone door is the letterbox.(CAUTION: THERE IS A COUPLE OF SMALL PIECES OF BARBED WIRE NEAR THE WALL SO WATCH OUT FOR THEM SO YOU DON'T GET CUT.)
