Ranger Smith is protecting Blue Rock State Forest’s Fire Tower
You can reach the Fire Tower by turning left onto Cutler Lake Rd. off of St. Rt. 60 South. You will follow Cutler Lake Rd. out about 4 miles, until you reach Ridge View Rd. There you will see signs posted for the Blue Rock Fire Tower. Turn left onto Ridge View Rd. and after driving a little over a mile, and driving up a long twisty hill, you will find the entrance to the Fire Tower on the right hand side of the road.
Pull into the parking lot and park. From the parking lot, walk straight back to the fire tower. From the base of the steps, take a reading of 150* and take 12 paces to a pile of cut logs. You will find Ranger Smith in the middle of the pile, covered in bark.
**There is a shelter house at the Fire Tower, so pack a picnic and have lunch. Be sure to also look for Boo Boo playing at the Blue Rock’s lower camp ground, and Yogi lurking at Blue Rock’s upper shelter house waiting on leftovers. Also be sure to check out the letterboxes placed by ridge runners, which are also located at Blue Rock State Park!
