The immense size of our Country's "breadbasket" is amazing as one drives through the Midwest. Huge tractors and harvesters work acres and acres of corn, wheat, soybeans, and sorghum to help feed us all. Yet, the simple farm tools our ancestors used are still needed on the small farms and in our own gardens. Here's our tribute to the simple cultivator.
Driving westbound on I-80 in Iowa, stop at the rest area near Victor, at mile marker 208. Just left of the main building, read about Historic Grinnell. Turn right at about a 45 degree angle and walk past the little grill towards the tree line. You should end up at a pathway between the trees. Walk around and behind the first tree on your right to find our captivating cultivator nestled between its two upwards branches.
