Driving westward along I-70 in Kansas, stop at the rest area near mile marker 224. Amble across the little bridge behind the buildings and keep your eyes open as you look across the field in front of you. When we were there, we saw a lovely red-tailed hawk being chased by two tiny songbirds. The aerial antics of all three were amazing to behold.
Turn left and walk to the fence behind the tall, rangy tree near the end of the property. Look down and through the fence at the hollow log. Our Artful Aviator is nestled inside the hollow, hiding out from pestering songbirds. Does he resemble a jayhawk?
