3) The Long Bus Ride

11/30/08 Please note : there is pheasant hunting allowed in and nearby this area from Oct 18th to thanksgiving !!!!!!!!!!!!!

This is the third of 3 sets of clues planted and written by the Southeast School Kids .
1) The Education Trail
2) The southeast school day Series

Drive pass Southeast School on Rte. 89 ( heading towards Rte 44 direction not back towards Rte 195) and cross over the water. Quickly look for a small pull off on the right after the water.( very close to the soccer fields and town dump road but opposite side of the street ) There is room for 3 or 4 cars here (probably not a bus). Follow the trail into the woods it is not marked here.
Stop at the first large pine you see on the left. 14 paces to the right at approximately 250 degrees there is another Large pine in the woods. There you will find your LUNCH (Box1) for the Long Bus Ride. This stamp was carved by Sojourner Thank You. Go back to the trail. If you can make it down the steep descend then the rest is easy. Quickly you will come to a “Y”. Go Left or( for a short adventure ) Go right and go down to the road. Yes a old paved road. Go right and find 1927. I thought this was an interesting spot with 81 years or more of history.

Continue on the old paved road with the water on your right. Heading NE. You will be walking almost into the water …the trail will go left and so do you. Very soon another “Y”. Go right on to the yellow trail. The water is still on your right. You will find an old rotten tree still standing on the right side of the trail. From here go 18 steps. Stop look to the left 20 feet off the trail to an upside down “V” stump. There you will find “The Cat in the Hat box 1” (Box 2 of our series) that we adopted when we found it in the middle of the trail for our first series. (This was a Teach and Preach series that is retired)

Continue on the yellow trail and you will come out on the old paved road again. Eventually you will see the yellow trail again on the right hand side (don’t take the first faint unmarked right hand path) You will see a cross country ski sign on the left side of this trail. On the left side of the trial you will see two old oaks close to the trail. From the left oak go North and go 10 paces to another old oak. Here you will find Bus Ride carved by GIZZ. (Box 3) Thank you

Wait you can catch another bus to school. Continue on the trail, following the intermittent yellow blazes. Be on the outlook for a great cactus looking oak tree on the right side of the trail (after a double blazed and yellow arrow tree). 25 paces from this great cactus looking oak tree on the right is an interesting old stump about 25 feet in the woods. If you come to another large 2-sister tree with a blaze on it then look right about 340 degrees. Go look in the trunk of the stump. This is Bus Route carved by Sojourner. (Box 4) Thank you.

Now you can turn around and follow the bus route back to your car. Or investigate the other trails.
