Not all 4 letter words are Bad and there are many 4 letter words that are GOOD but my four letter legends are the Best at what they do ...
***AS OF 5/13/13 BRIDGE IS CLOSED SO USE RT. 8 DIRECTIONS***
From Rt. 44 (Main st Winsted) turn onto Lake St. Take 2nd Right onto Rt. 263 west. Drive 2-1/2 miles. When Rt 263 Curves to the right go straight on to Platt hill Rd. Then the 1st left onto Sucker brook Rd. Drive about a mile down the road over a bridge to the parking area on the right . Park Here.
From Rt 8 : take exit 46 Turn and go down the hill to the street light . Go straight threw the light. Follow the road to the stop sign. Take a right. At the next stop sign take a left. Follow the road around 3rd bay of Highland lake . Keep going straight at the stop sign. When you come to a road on your left you will see the rock face of the dam. Take the left and go up the hill . parking area is on the left before the bridge.
Clue 1: Step over the gaurd rail on the NW side of the parking area. Hint: The fence should be on your right and trees on your left.
Take 25 steps forward to a small trail on the left. Head down the path between the 2 trees with the 2 flat rocks in the center. See the large spikey tree in front of you , to the right a fallen tree. The box is under that tree. There are some cut branchs on the right as of 5/13/13.
Clue 2: From where you stand head west threw the trees and between the fallen logs out to the rocks. There you will find a large 2 finger tree and under a large flat rock at the base of this tree you should find box 2.
Clue 3: Now you have to make your way to the other end of the dam. You can either take the lower dirt road or head back up and walk the top of the dam to the sand pile on the other side. ( taking the top way is easier walking) On the right side of the sand pile is a cluster of 5-6 medium size boulders. Amoung them you will find box 3.
From Box 3 head up the hill. About 1/2 way up on your left you will find a large bolder surrounded by gnarly tree pieces. Go to the left side of the boulder and box 4 is under the gnarly tree leaning against the birch tree.
bonus BACHS:
After stamping in log book continue up the hill to the 2 large pointed boulders. You will find the bonus BACHS under the first boulder.
