9/2009 NEW UPDATED DIRECTIONS...as some have attempted but not found this box, although it is still there...tried to update and make directions clearer???

We are having a ball in Damascus, Maryland...

At the Damascus Regional Park, of course.

Off Route 27, take Kings Valley Park Drive Eastward to park

Park in the last, uppermost parking lot, for Fields 1&2, facing east if you can; or turn around and face east if you can't!

Find the southeasterly small black paved trail to the right of the baseball field #1 that is closest to Kings Valley Road. This path runs along the edge of the park, flat and parallel and close to Kings Valley Road.

After beginning on this path, count 7 large evergreens on the left side AND before you get to the 8th large evergreen AND before the path heads downhill AND across from a house on the opposite side of the street.......look to your left into the little clearing space between the trees. If it is a hot summer night at dusk, there should be a firefly convention going on in there! Otherwise, it's just nice and cool in there...walk into this clearing, watch for pine needles and branches underfoot...heading towards the direction of the back outfield fence of the baseball field you just walked by...now see a large, old maple tree, sort of by itself back there....

Head to that maple tree. Stand with your back to the path you walked up and with the baseball field to your left. Look to your right. See another old tree with a large pile of fallen branches that has been collected and put on the left-hand side of the base of that tree. Head around to the back of this tree, going around to the left of the branch pile.

There, towards the back side, under a pile of the fallen branches, is our idea of Having a Ball in Damascus! Hope it was yours too.

When you get back to the car, you're in a perfect spot to start looking for Tommy the Turtle and the Damascus Dinosaur, which are both within 1 mile. Also, The Damascus Dragon and Damascus Dolphin are on this trail, but are a bit further down. On your bikes you could do them all in an hour (or more if there's little legs involved...there's a pretty big hill further up the trail:) Have a ball!
