Go to Battery Park In Burlington,VT
Start at the big yellow bus called Beansie’s, that has served hand cut french-fries since 1944, when a small fry was from 5¢ to 15¢. Beansie’s is only available spring until fall. The first sighting of Beansie’s is a sure sign of spring here in Burlington after a long and cold winter.
With your back to the bus or to the police station, look to the right. There you will see a stone wall, behind it is a steep hill that connects to the waterfront. Walk to that wall, and follow it. It will bring you to the spot that the Americans shot cannons from, down to the British in their boats during the war of 1812. This park is named “Battery Park” after how the Americans kept their guns and cannons here during the war, which is called a battery. Now walk to the statue of the Civil War General William Wells. If you stand with your back to William look in front of you, there you will see a new cement path that goes down a small hill. Walk along this path. Make sure to look at the sculptures along the way. Can you find the gnome? Walk down the path until you come to some stairs and look for the footprint in marble. Take a right and walk along the path next to the building going down. When you come to the end, walk straight towards the expensive town houses. Notice the beautiful view and the Burlington Waterfront. Stroll along the sidewalk until you come to a steep paved hill that only bikes and pedestrians are allowed on. About a third of the way up is a large tree on your right side. It is the tree that is closest to the road. Behind that tree is hollowed out log. Look inside of the log behind some bark. There is your letterbox! But remember that this street is very busy so take it out carefully. Enjoy its contents, and please replace hidden from view.
To get back to you car, continue up the hill which is called Depot Street. Take a right at the top and walk on the sidewalk all the way down till you are back to the yellow bus, and back to your car, but you first might want to try some of the delicious hand cut fries before you go!
