6/21/16 The parking on the small street is now forbidden.

Equinox Preservation Trust

This box was planted September 2006, but I lost the clues. So I found the box in August of 2008 and now here we are!

Directions: Manchester, Vermont.

Option One Shortest-Go 7A South out of outlet hell and through the buildings of the Equinox. On the right is Taconic Avenue. At the end take a left and then an almost immediate right for Equinox Pond Road. There are three parking spaces on the right and you’re not supposed to go beyond the signs (driving that is!). I have gone back to park on the end of Taconic each time I have been here.

Clue, Shortest: Walk up E. Pond Road through the gate and straight to the Information board. At information board find a trail map. Go due west from sign/map/information booth on Pond Loop. Loop meets Trillium trail (which goes right). Go a few feet (25 steps?) to a small bridge. From other end of bridge count 17 steps. Turn west (you were going south) and walk 12 steps up hill to a collection of rocks. Between collection and tree under bark and rocks is The Father Cat Letterbox. Please rehide well because he is on the trail side of the tree. If you go too far you will cross over a stream, 50 steps back you need to go.

Option Two Longer: Park at the end of West Union Street (west end), which has twelve spots. Walk in the Red Gate Trail (red), left on Flatlanders Pass (yellow), back on red and then quickly into information booth above.

Either way, go to the Pond Pavillion to get a great view of Mount Equinox (its on the pond loop, very close to the information board/booth.
